Book Club response

So far, I can relate to the author with his frustration towards the false accusations of the "American Dream" and how it only works for mostly one group of people which is White's. Also he feels the frustration towards having to take his son's innocence at such a young age and to warn him about the crazy injustice he'll have to face. He's unable to tell him that everything will be okay because in reality, he knows it's not and doesn't want give him a false sense of hope. That relates to my parents having to tell me at a young age that this country will be harder for me, I have to work extra hard to get the same opportunities and to survive compared to white people. However, some things that I can't relate to is having a fear of being attacked/killed by a police officer. Primarily because of my skin color and being a woman, if I was Black, it'd be a whole different experience for me and it's scary to know that it's the reality for many.
